Ghana coach Avram Grant is confident that the national team will make it to the World Cup 2018 despite being given a tough qualification group.
Ghana were once regarded as the strongest team in African football apart from Cameroon. However, the decline of stars like Michael Essien has contributed to the decline of the team in general. Over the years, there have been several managerial changes in the national team and former Chelsea and West Ham manager Grant is the latest one to take charge. Ghana will be up against the winner of the first round of qualification that will take place in October 2015.
The matches for the World Cup qualification will begin in November 2015 for Ghana. After the recent disappointments in major tournaments, the important task forGrant will be to get the team playing in the finals of the World Cup. Ghana failed to even reach the knockout stages of the tournament. Lesotho or Comoros will be the likely opponents for the Black Stars in the second round of qualification. After a string of poor performances in the friendly matches, Ghana returned to form with a 7-1 win over Mauritius in the recent Africa Cup of Nations qualification match.
The 67 year old English manager of the England national football team, Roy Hodgson believes that England have what it takes to have a successful World Cup.
England’s Roy Hodgson said: “I know we will get a World Cup again and I know one thing: when the World Cup comes here it will be a fantastic experience because the passion for football in England is still second to none. Football sells everything in this country. We are a football-mad country in the same way that Italy is and Brazil is.’’
Boris Johnson is a British politician, former journalist and current mayor of London. Boris is one of the latest figures outside of the world of football to have revealed his opinion concerning England hosting the next World Cup as Boris said that his country is ready to host it and they are still willing to do it in case Russia is stripped away from this privilege.
The mayor of London stated that if there is a re-run made, London stands ready for the possibility of becoming the new hosts.
“All we can do is watch events, send whatever evidence we have to the Americans, and live in hope. And if the Swiss police indeed show that the 2010 contest was corrupted, then it will have to be re-run. London stands ready.” Boris Johnson wrote in his Telegraph column.
According to the president of FIFA, SeppBlatter believes that Vladimir Putin and Russia in it’s entirety should be praised for the work that they have been doing in relation to the 2018 World Cup.
SeppBlatter said: “You and the steering committee deserve five stars. Some people want the World Cup to be taken away from Russia, but we give one answer to this we are involved in football and we will not allow politics to get in the way.”
Blatter and Putin were seen together during a sports convention in a Russian resort of Sochi. Both influential figures expressed details concerning the approaching international competition.
There is a budget of £7.9bn which is lower than how it was projected to be last year and this is due to the economic troubles that Russia is experiencing as they had to cut and slash down the administrative costs of the competition for around 10%. The economic struggles of Russia is mainly due to the price of oil having sustained a significant drop in the last few years and this brings a negative string of consequences for Russia as oil is their main export product and are now forced to export it at a cheaper price.
The Indian Football team has moved ahead in the World Cup 2018 qualification tournament of the Asian countries.
India faced Nepal in the opening tie and managed to get better of them after a tough tussle.
The first leg that India had played on the home turf, they had won that easily by 2-0, but, the return leg posed a tougher challenge for them with Nepalese players playing with extra bit of fire in their belly.
The Indians, however, weathered the storm and were able to play a draw to make sure that the lead that they had achieved playing at home, it remained intact.
India has not been a Football mad region traditionally, but recently, with Indian Super League taking place there and some of the legends featuring in that tournament; the people have started taking interest in the game.
A decent crowd was present in Assam to watch the first leg of the India Versus Nepal tie.
If India qualifies for the World Cup, though it’s too tough a prospect to even hope for at this point of time, it would go a long way in the development of Football in the country of thousands of millions of population.
